Telehealth GLP-1 providers have proliferated rapidly since 2024, with dozens of platforms now competing for patients seeking weight loss medications. We compared the leading providers across multiple dimensions to help you identify which ones deliver genuine medical care versus those that are essentially prescription mills.
The Current Landscape
As of early 2026, we count over 40 active telehealth platforms in the United States that prescribe GLP-1 medications for weight loss. These range from well-funded startups backed by major venture capital firms to small practices run by individual physicians. The quality gap between the best and worst providers is enormous.
Evaluation Criteria
We evaluated providers on six criteria: prescriber qualifications, initial evaluation thoroughness, ongoing monitoring, medication sourcing, pricing transparency, and patient support. We also filed test consultations with 15 different providers to assess the real patient experience.
Top Providers
The highest-rated providers in our evaluation all share common traits. They conduct thorough initial evaluations that include medical history review, lab work requirements, and a genuine conversation about goals and expectations. They employ board-certified physicians or experienced nurse practitioners, and they require regular follow-up appointments.
Pricing among top-tier providers typically falls between $149 and $299 per month for the program fee. Some providers bundle medication into this fee, while others charge separately. Always clarify whether the quoted price includes medication or just the consultation and monitoring fees.
Red Flags We Encountered
During our test consultations, we encountered several concerning practices. Two providers prescribed semaglutide after a consultation lasting less than five minutes with no discussion of medical history. One provider did not ask about contraindicated conditions. Another listed pricing on their website that did not include mandatory monthly fees revealed only at checkout.

Brand-Name vs. Compounded Medications
A key differentiator among providers is whether they prescribe brand-name medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound) or compounded alternatives. Brand-name medications carry FDA approval and undergo rigorous quality control. Compounded medications are prepared by compounding pharmacies and may offer significant cost savings, but quality control is less standardized.
Insurance Acceptance
Only a handful of telehealth GLP-1 providers accept insurance directly. Most operate on a cash-pay model. However, some providers will help you submit claims to your insurer for potential reimbursement. If insurance coverage is important to you, ask specifically about this before signing up.
What We Recommend
Choose a provider that treats the initial consultation as a real medical appointment, not a rubber stamp for a prescription. Look for providers that require lab work, ask about your full medical history, discuss potential side effects in detail, and schedule regular follow-up appointments. The extra cost of a thorough provider is worth it for both safety and long-term outcomes.
How to Switch Providers
If you are currently using a telehealth provider and are unsatisfied with the level of care, switching is usually straightforward. Request your medical records from your current provider, which they are legally required to share. Most new providers can onboard you within a week. Do not abruptly stop your medication during the transition.
